Problem:

We reviewed the soffit layout with a client for a basement remodel project.  It was determined to leave the existing (below floor joists) plumbing supply lines where they were in lieu of moving them closer to an hvac duct.  Then we would frame the soffit to hide these plumbing lines.  Once this was completed, the clients decided the soffit was too wide and took up too much of the room.

Solution:

We talked through the soffit design thoroughly prior to framing it.  Sometimes you just have to see something in place before you realize what you truly want it to look like.  Once we framed around the plumbing pipes, the client thought the soffit was too big.  We relocated the plumbing lines and reframed the soffit to be smaller and closer to the ductwork.  Moral of the story, take all decisions seriously and thoughtfully even if they seem minor or small.
